Floors, especially older timber ones, often have numerous gaps, cracks, and penetrations (for plumbing, wiring, etc.) that allow cold air to infiltrate and warm air to escape. Spray foam expands to fill every tiny void, creating a continuous, airtight barrier. This eliminates drafts and significantly reduces heat loss/gain through convection. ### Pest Deterrent The dense, rigid nature of cured spray foam makes it very difficult for rodents and insects to chew through or nest within, helping to keep your subfloor area free of pests. ### Structural Reinforcement Closed-cell spray foam adheres firmly to the underside of the subfloor and joists, adding rigidity and strength to the floor system. This can reduce floor squeaks and make the floor feel more solid. ### Moisture and Vapor Control Closed-cell spray foam acts as an effective vapor barrier, preventing moisture from the damp ground or humid outdoor air from entering your living space and condensing within the floor structure. ### High R-Value Spray foam provides excellent insulation per cm, which is beneficial when space is limited between joists.
